Painting your home will also make an impact on its value as well as protecting your home from weather damage. So, if you’re looking for a quick and cheap makeover for your home, a tin of paint will do the trick.
Finding the right color
Choosing colors for your walls may seem like a simple task, but in fact it is far from that and if you want a tasteful looking room, it’s wise to understand what colors work and which don’t. Of course you can begin with your desired color adding plenty of white and using small amounts of one or two emphasized colors. A useful tip to abide by is the cool shades with cool shades and warm shades with warm shades rule. Here are some color combinations that work wonderfully: white and blue, blue and yellow or any one color with white. It’s important to remember that you should use more neutral colors and break them up with small doses of bright colors.
Interior painting
Painting your interior walls is a straightforward procedure, as long as you are well prepared and have some know-how on how to paint. If you are painting a surface that needs a base coat, then you should prime too. It’s best to ask at your paint store whether you need a primer or not and if you do, what sort you need. And remember to tell them what the wall color was before you primed. If it happens that you need to prime, it doesn’t need to be a perfectly accurate job like painting, as long as the surface is covered completely. You should start by priming the ceilings first and afterwards- the walls, this goes for painting too. Start by brushing from top to bottom and if your painting door or window trims, paint them before painting the walls. Depending on the quality of your primer, your walls may only need one coat of paint.
Exterior painting
Before painting the outside of your home, it’s important to clean the surface, you can use a power washer to do this and make sure the surface is completely dry before you start painting. After this, use sandpaper to get rid of any chipped or cracked paint and sand the surface fully because paint needs a rough surface to stick to. Apply primer thoroughly over the surface and leave to dry, then coat the surface with exterior paint – two coats at least. After the surface is completely dry you can then use a paint roller for the rest.
