Nemrut Dagi, situated in Eastern Turkey, is known for its beautiful monuments. It has been a burial ground since 1Bc. In 62Bc, King Antiochus 1 Theos of Commagene, built tomb statues on top of Mount Nemrut. Now the heads on the statues of the people and animals, have been removed and are scattered around on the site.
Pamukkale, located in the Denizli Province, is famous for its limestone and calcium hot springs. Pamukkale translated means 'Cotton Castle', because of its unusual naturally formed white castles. The castles are formed from the limestone springs. It is a very unusual and beautiful place to see.
Kusadassi is a Port town where many cruise ships dock. It is a very attractive city, with great entertainment and night-life. Kusadassi is known for being a popular holiday resort, as it is situated on the coast of Turkey. It has many historical monuments and is close to the Ephesus ruins. The city is a great place for sightseers and has an amazing 300 days of sunshine!!!
In South West Turkey lies a place called Lycia. Lycia only became part of Turkey in the early 20th Century. The Lycian coast is famous for its excellent weather, beautiful beaches, and magnificent views of the country side as well as its rock-cut tombs.
Cappadocia is another great destination to see; it is great for sightseers and has a range of historical places and monuments to see. Like Pamukkale, Cappadocia also has a lot of amazing geologic formations to observe. There are also at least 1, 000 cave churches that are definitely worth a visit.
Ephesus was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 17 AD. The city was then completely rebuilt. Ephesus is known to many as a very ancient and historical city. There are still some preserved ruins to see and there are still visible ruins of an ancient library, which at one time would have held between 12-15, 000 scrolls! Ephesus is also home to the famous “Temple of Artemis” which is one of the “Seven Wonders of The Ancient World”.
